Whiskey-making in the United States began with farmers distilling their leftover grains and selling it to friends and neighbors. All over the eastern seaboard, colonials drank the whiskey they could get locally, solidifying styles and flavors in a regional tradition. At the height of the whiskey boom with distilling laws changing in every state, this class will explore New York whiskey and its local distilling stars.

Maysville features one of the best American whiskey collections around, but the worlds most popular whiskey is still Scotch, outselling American whiskey by millions of barrels worldwide. Instilled in deep tradition that has been around for hundreds of years, Scotch offers whiskey drinkers an array of styles that this class will explore to understand the key to its global fame.

Maysville is an American whiskey bar and restaurant with a menu of the smoked, grilled and charred flavors that have a natural affinity for bourbon. The restaurant`s namesake is the Kentucky port town from which whiskey was first shipped out of the state. The primary downriver destination was New Orleans where the whiskey gained popularity and perhaps even acquired its name from Bourbon Street.
